Designing where trust and money intersect

CHALLENGE: EarnIn is a consumer fintech platform that enables users to access their wages before payday, with no fees or interest. With 1.3M active users and having processed over $15B in earnings, EarnIn operates on a unique tipping model, the product’s value hinges on trust, utility, and experience. The EarnIn team brought us in to explore new ways to deepen user engagement, strengthen brand affinity, and design thoughtful micro-interactions that could drive meaningful behavioral shifts. MY ROLE: As the design and client lead, I worked directly with EarnIn’s CEO, CTO, and VP of Design, shaping the overall engagement and sprint structure. For each sprint, I partnered closely with a dedicated PM, aligning feature goals with business strategy. I led a core team of 3–4 designers and prototypers across seven focused sprints, steering concept development, managing timelines, maintaining delivery quality, and building a relationship of trust across all stakeholder levels. Each sprint tackled a distinct product area - from core functionality improvements like onboarding, the redesign for the main navigation, tipping and product discovery to new feature explorations like iOS widgets, cashflow manager, the EarnIn website etc. Our three-part approach: PROCESS: - Exploration & mapping: Generated multiple concepts per area, informed by journey mapping and stakeholder alignment - Prototyping & testing: Built rapid, interactive Figma prototypes and validated them with users and stakeholders - Refinement & delivery: Delivered refined designs with motion guidance, tailored for implementation SOLUTION: Working closely with EarnIn’s design and product leadership, we ensured every sprint delivered implementation-ready assets and shaped a product direction grounded in insight and intent.

This collaboration helped EarnIn define a stronger, more emotionally intelligent product roadmap, with several features already launched and more in development. The project also deepened the team’s appreciation for the role of micro-interactions, visual storytelling, and UX polish in driving core metrics. Most importantly, it sparked an ongoing design dialogue with leadership, one built on trust, momentum, and shared ambition.
